Your privacy matters. This page explains what ParkBuds collects, why, and how to control it.
Effective date: April 18, 2026 · Last updated: April 18, 2026
1. Who we are
ParkBuds ("we", "us", "ParkBuds") operates the ParkBuds mobile application and related services (the "Service"). Contact us at hello@parkbuds.app with privacy questions.
2. Information we collect
2.1 Information you provide
Account: email address, password (hashed), or sign-in via Apple or Google. Apple and Google may return an obfuscated user identifier and (with your consent) your name and email.
Profile: display name, date of birth, short bio, profile photos, home parks, favorite parks, ride preferences, pace, preferred group size, and total coasters ridden.
User content: ride signals you post, messages you send, visit logs, coasters logged, reports you submit, and people you block.
Support communications: any email or message you send to us.
2.2 Information collected automatically
Location: your approximate or precise device location is used to show nearby parks, nearby members, and distance estimates. Location is only captured while you use the app; background location is not collected.
Device and log data: device model, operating system version, app version, crash logs, and basic analytics events (for example, "opened map", "created signal").
Push token: when you enable push notifications, we store the push token issued by Apple (APNs) or Google (FCM) so we can deliver notifications you asked to receive.
2.3 We do not collect
We do not access your contacts, calendar, microphone, or files outside of what you explicitly share with the app (for example, a photo you pick).
We do not sell personal information.
We do not use advertising identifiers for cross-app tracking.
3. How we use information
Provide and operate the Service: match you with nearby enthusiasts, surface parks, signals, and messages.
Personalize content: apply your preferences, show relevant parks and members.
Safety and integrity: investigate reports, enforce the Terms of Service, detect abuse, block bad actors.
Communicate with you: send account, notification, and support messages.
Analytics: understand which features are used so we can improve them.
Legal compliance: respond to lawful requests and protect our rights.
4. Who sees your information
Other users: your display name, photos, bio, home parks, favorite parks, age (derived from DOB), coaster count, approximate distance from the viewer, signals you post, and messages you send to them. Your exact coordinates are never shared with other users; only a derived distance is displayed.
Service providers we use to run ParkBuds:
Supabase (database, authentication, storage, push trigger) — United States.
Apple Push Notification service and Google Firebase Cloud Messaging — for push delivery.
Google Maps SDK — map tiles and geocoding displayed in the app.
Expo Application Services — build, over-the-air updates, and push delivery.
Apple Sign in with Apple and Google Sign-In — optional login.
Legal: if we are legally required to disclose data (for example, a subpoena) or to protect someone's safety.
Successor in interest: if ParkBuds is acquired, your data may transfer to the new operator under an equivalent privacy policy.
5. Your choices and rights
Edit your profile: change display name, photos, bio, parks, and ride preferences at any time in the Profile tab.
Location: revoke location access at any time in your device settings. Some features (map, nearby members, distance) will degrade without it.
Push notifications: disable at any time in device settings.
Block or report: block other members from the Profile menu; report signals, messages, or members using the report option inside the app.
Delete account: Profile → Delete account permanently deletes your profile, ride log, signals you created, messages you sent, follows, and blocks. Some log and safety records may be retained for a limited period to prevent abuse.
Access, correction, portability (EEA, UK, California, and other covered regions): email hello@parkbuds.app to request a copy, correction, or deletion of your personal data. We will respond within the timeframe required by your local law.
Do Not Sell / Share (California): we do not sell or "share" personal information as defined by the CCPA.
6. Data retention
We keep personal data only as long as necessary to run the Service and meet our legal obligations. Deleted accounts are removed from the active database promptly and purged from backups within 30 days. Aggregated and anonymized data may be retained for product analytics.
7. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect data: encrypted transport (HTTPS/TLS), encrypted storage at rest, role-based access to our infrastructure, and row-level security on our database. No system is perfectly secure; please use a strong, unique password and enable device-level protections.
8. Children
ParkBuds is intended for users 17 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 17. If you believe a user under 17 has created an account, email hello@parkbuds.app and we will remove the account.
9. International users
ParkBuds is operated from the United States. If you use the Service from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be processed in the United States, which may have different data protection laws than your country. By using the Service you consent to this transfer.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the Service evolves. When we make material changes we will notify you in the app or by email and update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the Service after the change means you accept the revised policy.
